X.Y. Tower Supports Timor-Leste’s Power Grid Upgrade with 90-Meter Swaged Pole Project
2025-05-16
In May 2025, X.Y. Tower achieved a major milestone in its cooperation with Timor-Leste’s national grid enhancement initiative. The first batch of custom-designed 90-meter and 110-meter swaged steel poles has been shipped from Qinzhou Port in China and is expected to arrive at Dili Port within two weeks. This shipment marks a significant step toward constructing the country’s first high-voltage transmission corridor.
Innovative Design Enhances Transport and Installation Efficiency
The shipment includes 27 tapered steel poles featuring a gradient diameter design, narrowing from 2.8 meters at the base to 0.6 meters at the top. Optimized through computer-aided wind load simulations, each 110-meter pole weighs only 12 tons—35% lighter than conventional designs—significantly reducing shipping costs and easing transportation logistics.
All poles are coated with RAL3020 traffic red anti-corrosion paint, compliant with international standards. This not only ensures long-term durability in tropical environments but also adds a visually striking and symbolic aesthetic to the project, highlighting Sino-Timorese cooperation.
Rigorous Quality Control for Long-Term Stability
Each pole passed extensive factory testing, including simulations for Category 12 typhoons (up to 45 m/s wind speed) and seismic conditions up to level IX. Using phased-array ultrasonic weld inspection and precision-controlled coating thickness (280±20μm), the poles are engineered for long-term reliability in coastal and tropical climates.
Supporting Livelihoods and Regional Development
The transmission line will connect Dili to Baucau via a 110kV backbone grid. Upon completion, it will provide stable electricity to approximately 60,000 residents. Funded through a Chinese concessional loan, the project is expected to deliver an annual transmission capacity of 800 million kWh, increasing regional industrial capacity by over 20%. The bright red poles are seen by local communities as a symbol of technical cooperation and mutual development.
Modular Technology Accelerates Construction
Modular prefabrication has been introduced, increasing on-site installation efficiency by 60%. The remaining 89 poles will be delivered in three subsequent batches. Drawing on extensive grid construction experience, X.Y. Tower expects full power transmission before the 2026 rainy season.
