2025 The 35kV Steel Multi-Circuit Power Single Pole Transmission Project in the Philippines was officially put into operation. The project successfully solved the core problems of tight resources and weak disaster resistance of transmission corridors in island areas through the integration of innovative technologies, marking a new stage of intensive and intelligent power grid construction in the Philippines.

Technical innovation to crack the bottleneck of power supply

The traditional power grid in island areas of the Philippines has long faced challenges such as typhoon damage and insufficient line capacity. The newly constructed 35kV steel monopole adopts the design of “one pole, four circuits”, integrating transmission, distribution and communication functions through vertical layered architecture, saving more than 40% of land area compared with the traditional scheme, and significantly improving the efficiency of space utilization.

The Chief Engineer of the project emphasized: “The steel poles are made of Q345 high-strength steel, with a corrosion-resistant life of more than 30 years after hot-dip galvanizing treatment, and can withstand winds of more than 12 levels. The multi-circuit design not only supports 35kV/10kV/0.4kV multi-voltage level mixed loads, but also reserves standardized interfaces for new infrastructures such as 5G base stations.”

Three core innovations lead the industry upgrade

1. Three-dimensional integration design

Single pole integrated four-circuit line, 35kV trunk line on the top layer, 10kV distribution line deployed in the middle layer, the bottom carries the communication fiber optic cable bracket, and the transmission corridor width is optimized to 8 meters, maximizing the use of limited space resources.

2. Intelligent operation and maintenance system

Built-in IoT sensors monitor more than 20 parameters in real time, such as pole inclination, conductor temperature, etc., combined with AI algorithms to realize fault early warning, the efficiency of operation and maintenance response is increased by 18 times. The project operator said, “The system can compress the fault repair time from 3 days to 4 hours during the typhoon season.”

3. Eco-friendly construction

Adopting modularized prefabricated components and micro-piling technology, the on-site construction cycle is shortened to 72 hours, avoiding the interference of large-scale machinery to the sensitive ecological environment, and the ecological protection of the coral reef area meets the standard of 100%.

Multi-dimensional Benefits Enabling Sustainable Development

– Upgrade of power supply: the transmission capacity of a single pole is upgraded to 80MVA, which can support the all-weather power supply demand of an island with a population of 100,000 people;

– Green transformation: the supporting clean energy interface consumes 50GWh of wind power and photovoltaic annually, and reduces carbon emissions from diesel power generation by 42,000 tons;

– Disaster-resistant enhancement: actual measurements show that the structural deformation of steel poles in a Grade 11 typhoon is <0.1%, and the line failure rate has dropped by 90% year-on-year;

– Improvement of people’s livelihood: the project directly creates 230 local jobs, and electricity prices in remote islands are expected to drop by 15%-20%.

As the first country in Southeast Asia to apply steel multi-circuit single poles on a large scale, the Philippine project not only improves the resilience of the power grid, but also creates a multifunctional infrastructure integration paradigm of “power tower + communication base station + weather monitoring”. As stated at the completion ceremony, “This project proves that technological innovation can bring light across the ocean and light up every corner.”
